At Island Budokan Karate and Judo, we practice a specific style of martial arts called Shorinjiryu Kenyukai Karate-Do, which is our "shaman no gyo," or way of life. This way of life cultivates a strong mind, body, and spirit. As a result, our students develop self confidence, courage, compassion, and a definitive sense of positive and negative behavior.
The essence of our style is best summarized by the motto of Shorinjiryu Karate, "Doku Ji Gym Sei Ki," which translates to "The Spiritual Development of Individuality in Mind and Body." Our ultimate purpose at IBK is, thus, to develop spiritual individuality in mind and body through the study of traditional techniques and practices, and the spirit of the art.
Led by Kaicho (President) Dan Hayes, Island Budokan Karate and Judo is rooted in Dan Sensei's almost half-century of training, and is dedicated to the original techniques taught by the leading disciple of our style, Shinan Kori Hisataka. Will you join us and become part of the rich history of Shorinjiryu Kenyukai Karate-Do?
